The invention of the radio has been around since the late 1800s, however radios became available for personal use in the early 1900s.

The first of the radios featured here is the Musalarm 8H59, which was both an alarm and a radio. It was one of the first of it’s kind to be sold on the shelf and it became available in 1946. It is cased in plastic and can fit on a bedside table. One of my favorite features is the lovely old-fashioned script typeface that spells “Telechron” on the face of the clock.

The white radio is a portable AM receiver (model P808A) made by General Electric around 1959-60. It is a bit smaller than the Musalarm and is very cute with it’s gold plated accent pieces. It even has an earphone jack for private listening – high tech!

Lastly, I was at a holiday get-together and was introduced to this adorable Musaphonic 221 radio from General Electric around 1946-47.
